About

Glen is a Senior Lecturer in Tourism in the Department of Management at Monash University. Glen started at Monash at the beginning of 2004, moving from New Zealand for the position. Prior to arriving in Melbourne, Glen had been a lecturer in the Bachelor of Tourism Management degree at Waiariki Institute of Technology, Rotorua, and a half-time Research Fellow, plus tutor and casual lecturer at the Department of Tourism, University of Otago, Dunedin. At Monash, Glen also has the position of Deputy Course Director of the BBusCom, Berwick Campus.

Glen’s teaching and research interests are in tourism, and he is an active member of the Berwick-based Tourism Research Unit (TRU). Glen’s special areas of research interest are in the role of media in tourism, and in tourism education. He also has an active research interest in tourism in natural and protected areas. Reflecting the tourism and media interest, since being at Monash, he has been co-convenor of the International Tourism and Media (ITAM) conferences (2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010: http://www.buseco.monash.edu.au/units/tru/events/itam), and the coming 2011 conference, November 28-30, in Melbourne, Australia.

Reinforcing Glen’s interest in tourism education, he has been awarded two Dean’s Teaching prizes for his innovative development and delivery of a location-based learning unit, and another for the co-implementation of the Research Skills Development framework.

Merging the interests in tourism, media and natural and protected areas, Glen has been involved in number of projects partnered with protected area agencies. Recent research projects include one on Pre-Visit Communication for parks agencies, another on park agency partnerships, and yet another on the non-use of urban and semi urban parks by specific ethnic groups.
